The Accounting course helps learners develop skills in communicating essential financial and management accounting information to various stakeholders and organisations. It combines the practical and theoretical aspects of learning related to accounting, allowing learners to use information and communications technology (ICT) to complete tasks. Topics learners will study include preparing final accounts for sole traders, preparing ledger accounts, trial balance, preparing business documents, overhead analysis statements, inventory costing, job costing and break-even analysis. The course encourages learners to think logically and develop their problem solving skills. The course is practical in nature where learners will be preparing financial statements. As there is no National 4 Accounting course, learners need to have a high level of numerical skills and S3 will focus on learners consolidating their numerical skills to prepare them for National 5 should they continue with the course in S4.
