Environmental Science explores how the planet works and how humans interact with the environment at local, national and global levels. You will develop an understanding of how Earth’s natural systems operate, how they are interconnected, and how human activity can affect them both positively and negatively.
You will study ecosystems and biodiversity, learning how plants and animals depend on each other and their environment, how populations change over time, and why biodiversity is important for a healthy planet. This includes investigating food webs, nutrient cycles, and the impact of human activity on ecosystems.
The course also looks at Earth’s systems, including land, water and air. You will explore processes such as soil formation, water movement, pollution, and atmospheric change, and examine how these systems interact and influence life on Earth.
A major focus of Environmental Science is sustainability. You will study real-world issues linked to food production, water resources, energy generation and waste management, considering the environmental, social and economic impacts of different choices. You will evaluate how resources can be managed responsibly and how scientific understanding can help protect the planet for future generations.
Throughout the course, you will develop practical investigation skills, analyse data, and apply scientific knowledge to environmental issues, helping you become a more informed and responsible global citizen.
