Formed in 1909, initially as a service arm of the French Army known as the Service Aéronautique.
It was made an independent military arm in 1934, becoming the Armée de l'air / French Air Force.
On 10th September 2020, it became known as the Armée de l'air et de l'espace (French Air and Space Force), to reflect the evolution of it's space missions.
