I was inspired by Emile's feelings on War being a specific element of creatureness.
While few of us have actually experienced it, war is a huge part of our culture. I mean, we even write songs about it.
And lately it seems like the whole world seems to be callously inching closer to war without realizing the brutality of it. This is evidenced more recently where we have access to war videos and drone footage (from places like Ukraine and Gaza) and have become desensitized to the loss of life that results from war. Furthermore, I also feel like war is just a symptom of a larger emotion, namely greed, and it is greed that motivates people at the top to keep a war going despite the large human toll.
To this end I would like to modify the creature to incorporate these themes. Instead of the installation just being 2 robots or balls that fight each other and elicit empathy, I would also like to involve the audience and have them participate in the install.
I would allow the audience to wager on which robot they think will win, which which creates a sense of greed and attaches some financial motivations to the robots fighting. The wagers that are placed on the losing robot get distributed to the people who bet on the winner. This creates a series of conflicting emotions, one where there is a financial interest in keeping the fights between robots going, but also forces the audience to confront the ethical implicatinos of what they are doing.
