The Flat Patch is a parametric object in Architron that generates a flat NURBS surface based on the geometry of its parent object.
It aligns to the designated ground axis and conforms to the outline of the parent geometry, making it ideal for creating floors, slabs, ceilings, and other flat architectural surfaces.
The Flat Patch tool simplifies the construction of clean NURBS-based surfaces, even when the parent geometry is complex or irregular.
The Flat Patch can operate in two ways:
Traditional mode:
When the parent object has no parametric edges, the Flat Patch generates a surface from all edges of the parent curve or NURBS object—preserving the workflow from previous versions.
Parametric Edge mode:
When Parametric Edges are present, the Flat Patch generates geometry specifically from the edges that contain Flat Patch parameters, giving per-edge control and allowing multiple parametric objects to be generated from the same floorplan.
This dual behavior maintains backward compatibility while supporting the new parametric workflow.
Ground Axis: Allows users to set the reference ground axis for the flat patch. The dropdown menu includes options such as 'Top XZ', providing flexibility in aligning the patch with the model.
Auto Flatten: When enabled, this feature automatically adjusts the patch to lie flat along the chosen ground axis. This ensures the NURBS patch remains planar and consistent with the design's spatial geometry.
Holes: This option, when checked, acknowledges and incorporates any holes within the parent geometry into the flat patch.
Analyze Nurbs: This checkbox, when activated, provides additional analytical tools to inspect the NURBS geometry. It's a useful feature for troubleshooting and ensuring the quality of the flat patches created.
