What is planning? Why do it?
Planning is an essential step in the process of creating an assignment. It will help you create the building blocks of your assignment, develop a clear structure and assemble your evidence. Planning is not optional or separate to the process of researching and writing your assignment.
You already plan - even if you do not call it that. This guide is not designed to teach you to plan: you already know how. It is important to recognise how you ALREADY plan, and how to DEVELOP that into a process that you can use when creating university assignments.
Planning examples
There is no one right way to plan.
Everyone will have their own method of planning, and you will need to try out different methods, and draw on your own experiences of planning in other parts of your life to find out what works for you. The example below shows the connection between notes and developing a piece of work. In this example, notes are used to identify themes that become part of an essay structure.
