What is an Operating System?
Find out your OS
Your device will most likely come pre-loaded with its Operating System (OS). Your OS will probably be one of the three most common operating systems: Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Why do you need to know? When you're adding new software to your computer, you'll need to know that it is compatible with your OS.
What is a web browser?
A browser is a programme (or app) that you need to view websites. You will already have a browser on your device. It will be Microsoft Edge if you have a Windows device, or Safari if you have an Apple device. There are other browsers you can download including Google Chrome, which Newman recommends you use.
Using Google Chrome
Go here to find out how to download and install Google Chrome.
Once installed, you can log in (if you choose to do so) with a Google account. This means you can sync your browsing history and saved webpages across more than one device.
