As a university student you have become part of a learning community. That community is only as respectful, strong and supportive as its members. It is up to all of us to make sure that we behave in a professional manner that serves to enhance and not to undermine our learning community.
Be polite and respectful in both language and behaviour when communicating online. It is hard to read tone in an email or online post so take care what you write. Remember: an email or text message never goes away, so double check you're happy with what you've written before pressing send.
Be open to hearing new ideas, and including the thoughts and contributions of everyone you are working with. This is harder to do online than in person, so you may have to explicitly say to group members. Try saying: "I'd welcome your thoughts on this" and give them time and space to respond.
Tips for online meetings
Set an agenda, and nominate a member of the group to keep everyone to the agenda
Appoint a note-taker, to record what is agreed. The note-taker should email everyone after the meeting with a reminder of what was agree.
Stick to the agreed time limits, being mindful of everyone's other commitments. Keep meeting times to an hour or less.
At the end, schedule the next meeting.
