In conclusion, Michigan Technological University plans to renovate the Memorial Union Building (MUB) in the near future. Due to this, we were given the project to BIM model the MUB, more specifically the Basement, Ground Floor, First Floor, and Second Floor. Within the project, we were given 4 main tasks to complete. These tasks are the following: BIM Modeling, Program Planning and Construction Simulation, BIM in Property and Facility Management, and Final Presentation. To begin, our team created a schedule for the entire semester, with start dates and deadlines to follow. Task 1 was the first task to be completed. This completed task provides a substantial start to the entire project with about 25% of it completed. We completed this task by dividing each floor to a member and then taking each floor model and assembling one BIM model of the MUB. We encountered many problems along the way consisting of little to no BIM experience, linking the AutoCAD floor plans into Revit, scaling, aligning, boundaries, and correct orientation. We made a team-determined schedule to follow throughout the project that helped us complete goals ahead of schedule. We then worked on task 2 by creating a master program in Microsoft Project and then creating a construction simulation using NavisWorks. With the compilation of task 2, we moved to task 3. Task 3 involved a report on the multiple softwares facility management can use for BIM. By researching and gathering information on Map 3D, Procore and Archibus, this task was completed ahead of schedule. Throughout this process, we have effectively communicated, critically investigated, analyzed, synthesized, and integrated teamwork in solving problems in the engineering and surveying professional context in which we plan to take with us in the future to the construction industry.
