The above video is a construction simulation of Michigan Technological University's MUB building: https://youtu.be/a51fjlaPsUY
Memorial Union Bulding Modeling
Firstly our group was tasked to model the existing Memeorial Union Building, each group member was assigned to model one floor and from there a model was established by linking all our floors together. There we made the links permanent so the Navisworks model would work smoothly. Next we created a construction simulation in Gantter involving all the steps to create a master program to impelent into Navisworks. Once in Navisworks, we linked the assigned tasks to their correct elements to get a final construction simulation above.
Renovations
Renovations that we decided would be beneficial to the future of the MUB are the following: energy-efficient lighting, using natural lighting in more efficient ways, solar panels on the roof, and updating the HVAC systems. Updating the lighting from traditional fluorescent lighting to sustainable LED lighting and including added windows to provide more natural lighting provided many benefits which are the following: healthy and improved circadian rhythm, improved focus, reduced carbon footprint, and increased well-being to the occupants. Updating the HVAC system will provide an improvement in indoor air quality, increased building value, better control for humidity, quieter operations, and an increased building lifespan. Solar panels are then added to the roof of the MUB as a renewable energy resource. This can be an alternative energy resource that will reduce CO2 emissions, lower energy costs, and provide a positive impact on the environment. These updates will make the MUB more efficient while becoming a more sustainable building.
