To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office, whether visa-free travel for UK owners of second homes in the EU is an objective in negotiations on the future relationship with the EU.

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, what advice his Department is providing to UK citizens who own a second home within the EU in relation to access after the end of the transition period. Tabled on: 08 September 2020

Answer:

The Government is not seeking to agree specific mobility arrangements for owners of a second home. After the end of the transition period, UK nationals will require permission from the relevant Member State to stay longer than 90 days in a rolling 180-day period.

  • It could be argued that as this answer is specific to second home owners therefore the Government could still be seeking visa-free access for all UK citizens

  • The second part of the reply makes it clear that there will be no special arrangements after the end of the transition period
