This course is embedded in the design studio that warrants specialization in Sustainable Technologies. It gives emphasis on human comfort and energy-saving concepts and criteria in sustainable building design. It considers specific aspects of building performance in relation to its context, concepts, and techniques in environmental design. The scope of architectural solutions may be passive or mechanical that illustrates climatic understanding and use of appropriate technological solutions with particular emphasis on tropical climate.

MBES 2089 Design Pre-thesis 3 - CO 201920-1.pdfThe Design Pre-Thesis 3 is an advanced level design that focuses broader environmental issues that will lead to alternative concepts of what might constitute in a sustainable design. The program invites the students to re-think the balance between “environment-building-human” equilibrium. Design Project is an important component of the scheme, and is intended to emphasize practicalities and develop the necessary working skills. The scheme encourages an understanding of both the principles and application of its subject, giving attention to evidence based design. Results of research will inform the knowledge they will need and provides them with opportunities to generate new ideas in building design and practice the necessary skills. They are introduced to techniques for making more informed decisions, for evaluating their results, and for drawing lessons from the work of others.

Design Pre-Thesis 3, students were required to develop, produce and present their evidence-based design toward environmental approached. It considers specific aspects of building performance in relation to its context, concepts, and techniques in environmental design.
