Kampung Baru is a neighbourhood of traditional Malay wooden houses, village life unfolds despite the surrounding skyscrapers in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Kampung Baru was opened as early in 1899 as urging by Malay residents in Kuala Lumpur towards Colonial British administration. Selangor British Resident was agreed to establish Malay settlement in Kuala Lumpur on 223 acres land comprises of seven villages, each having its own distinct character with different traditions and architectural styles depicting the ancestral roots of the villagers.
The study undertakes an analysis on how to rejuvenate Jalan Raja Abdullah at Kampung Baru. Jalan Raja Abdullah act as the spine of Kampung Baru road network. It is a two-lanes two-way street approximately 1 kilometre length connecting Jalan Raja Muda Aziz to Jalan Tun Ismail. Kampung Baru is described as “syurga makanan” or food heaven for all food junkies because the place offers variety choices of delicious food sells in restaurant or food stalls. Due to the high number of visitors to Kampung Baru every day, Jalan Raja Abdullah became congested with vehicle. Rejuvenation of Jalan Raja Abdullah is a must to reduce motor vehicle congestion and to promote friendly pedestrian environment.
In Urban context, COMMUNITY CENTRE is defined as public place where people tend to gather for group activities, social support, recreational, public information, and other purposes. This project focusing on building a Community Centre due to very limited number of public spaces for public activities is one of the Urban issue identified in Kampung Baru. The building also integrated with Automated Parking System to reduce vehicle movement causing congestion in Kampung Baru.
