Design Pre-thesis 1 | Social Culture
Kampong Medan is a village formed by the squatter settlement. This area is facing the problem of slow development, which contributes to lower living expenses and attracting a lot of people living at that area. Compact and overcrowded low quality and high density affordable housing with less consideration of human and environmental aspect are built. Lack of common spaces in housing compound and lack of social interaction results a tendency to lose touch with social nuances, cultural value and traditional society are the main problems of Kampung Medan.
Thus, Medan Vertical Village is proposed as a quality vertical housing with the intention to improve social interaction of residents to achieve social harmony competence. Moreover, the integration of public spaces and social platform contributes to bringing back the culture of neighbourhood life and refine the living environment.
