Background- This prairie is something that characterizes FreeState with the help of restoration from the University of Kansas. The majority of the students, teachers, and the Lawrence community assisted to maintain this experiment. The Free State prairie provides access to a more outdoor and local way of learning. The prairie actually used to be a football field that was built in 1997, but when the stadium was built it had barely any use. This project probably wouldn’t have been a success with Julie Schwarting and Helen Alexander.
Methods-
We first started by going through every single plot in the prairie, all 18. We then scouted out each plot for the tallest plant in each plot, then we measured in inches. The measuring tools we used were the measuring stick and the orange jumpsuits to get into the the prairie plots. . After we got all of our information on our paper that our documenter wrote down, I made a graph of all of the information.
This picture shows all of the plots and the heights of the plants we measured to get our research.
This was Gavin measuring the tallest plant in the plot. After measuring 17 other plants in 17 different plots we got this information and bar graph
Our group was researching what type of plots on the prairie had the tallest plants. Based on our data, we found out that plot type does not have a significant affect on the height of the plants in the plots. Our tallest plant was 8ft 4 inches in plot 9, and the shortest plant was plot 16 at 5ft 4 inches.
One potential source of problem was confusion on jobs in the group.
If we had a few more weeks to add to our project I would want to maybe add a time lapse to see if over time our results change or if the results had something to do with the weather.
