Does The Plot Type Effect The Height of The Big Blue Stem
Our prairie was a project that was initially started in Spring, 2013 by Julie Schwarting and Helen Alexander (Free State Prairie, n.d.), it was started to connect people to the natural environment as well as to make a land that was once occupied into a more natural area where studies could be taken. The prairie has 18 plots, all of them have grass, ⅓ of the ones that have grass also have forbs , and another ⅓ has grass and two times the number of forbs. One of the great things about this prairie is the diversity it has, but under all of that diversity there’s soil, minerals and pH levels that greatly impact the growth (Lines-Kelly & New South Wales Government, 1992) and is one of the main reasons that we have various plants there. One of the main factors is the soil nutrients, one of the plants that grow out there is tall grass, we wanted to know if the plot type affects how tall the big blue stem is. This question came up because each plant out there needs a certain amount of nutrients to be as healthy as possible, but with interspecific competition the nutrients needs to be spread out almost equally throughout all plots.
