Jozzie is the documenter and collected most of the data. Amora is the researcher and researched about what a prairie is. Qkiara is the Visual and made the graph and put this website together.
The prairie is a field behind free state high school, filled with a variety of plants in every plot. There are 3 plot types in the prairie, they are filled with different but also the same plants, In total the prairie has 18 plots. It also used to be a football field back in the day before they moved the field. Our experiment was about how many different species we could collect in each plot. The most important thing that lives in the prairie is the grass. The grass has been affected in many ways recently with the wind and the rain, with the grass growing very long in the rain flow. Grass in the prairie is important because grass and plants are the producers of the prairie, for the animals and insects. Also the Indian grass which some may mistake as wheat. There are also a variety of different kinds of plants and grass, such as forbs and flowers.
The reason we wanted to do this experiment was because we wanted to see how many different kinds of species of plants are in the 3 plots. We experimented plots 1,2 and 3 and found indian grass and a mixture of flowers in 2 out of the 3 plots. One of the plots is filled with only grass that would grow fairly tall! Our group had learned that it was planted with only grass seeds. That is why that plot has only grown grass. Although throughout this whole experiment we had collected forbs, grass, multiple kinds of flowers and also indian grass. Forbs are a range of non-wood and non-grass plants/flowers. Overall this experiment was pretty easy, and we learned a lot about the prairie.
First you go outside to the prairie. Then you go to three plots, a grass only plot, a grass and forbs, and then a plot of grasses and 2x forbs. After that you collect a few things from each of the plots. Then you count how many plants/species you collected from each plot.
This map shows where we went on the prairie for this experiment.
Our overall experiment was, How many different species of plants grow in each plot. The data we collected, plants from plot 1, plot 2, and plot 3; we collected and organized plants from each plot. Plot 1, a grass and forbs plot, grew sunflowers, wild flowers and Indian grass but plot 2 grew the the same kind of plants as plot one but plot 2, a grass and more forbs plot, also grew dry beans and wild grass, this shows that more forbs sustain different species of plants. How ever in plot 3, a seeded grass plot, grew completely different plants such as, wild berries, wild grass, tall grass and prairie smoke flower. This experiment was pretty difficult and a little stressful at first because we did not actually plan ahead and if we were to do this kind thing again together I think we would all agree that we would pay attention more on what we were actually doing and not try and rush through it.
