Modern World History (10) (Full year)
Modern World History is a combination of Geography and World History. We will use the textbook Modern World History and other historical materials as our main sources. Some of the major areas of study will be the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Age of Discovery, the French Revolution and Napoleonic Age, the Age of Imperialism, the Industrial Revolution, the World Wars, and the restructuring of the post war world.
U. S. History (11) (Full year)
This course will concentrate on the years following the settling of the American West. Topics will include industrialization, overseas expansion, World War I, the 1920’s, the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, the civil rights movement, and the Viet Nam War.
College American History I (11-12) (1 Semester) (Prerequisite: At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA)
This class is a survey of the social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual history of the United States from the pre-Columbian era to the Civil War/Reconstruction period. It includes the study of pre-Columbian, colonial, revolutionary, early national, slavery and sectionalism, and the Civil War/Reconstruction eras. Themes that may be addressed include: American settlement and diversity, American culture, religion, civil and human rights, technological change, economic change, immigration and migration, and creation of the federal government. This course provides the opportunity for students to receive both high school and college credit through WSU Tech. This course meets the requirement for first semester U.S. History. Cost will be approximately $75 per credit hour, plus the cost of the book.
College American History II (11-12) (1 Semester) (Prerequisite: At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA)

American Government (12) (Full year)
This course surveys the basic structures and functions of local, state, and national governmental units. Students will investigate the ways in which these levels of government interact and directly impact their lives. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the structure and functions of the U.S. Constitution.
World History and Media (9-12) (One semester)
Used as a supplement for the Modern World History course, students will study world history as it is reflected in various forms of media. Students will view various medias, review them, analyze them for historical accuracy, and test over the historical information. This course is a social science elective and cannot replace Modern World History as a graduation requirement.
U.S History and Media (9-12) (One semester)
This course covers U.S. history from 1860 to present day as reflected in movies. Students will view relevant movies of historical merit, review them, analyze them for historical accuracy, and test over historical information. This course is a social science elective and cannot replace U.S. History to meet graduation requirements.
Current Events (10-12) (One semester)
The goal of the Current Events course is for the student to become aware of the major issues of the day and to have an in depth understanding and appreciation of current events. The focus of the class will be issues that affect the student as a resident of the world, the U.S., Kansas, and Sedgwick County. Students will follow daily news events and will be expected to understand the social, political, and economic issues on a daily basis. The objectives of this course are to make the connection between current events and history, to enhance the student’s understanding of world events, to encourage students to be informed citizens, and to help them make intelligent decisions as they take their place in society.
College Psychology (11-12) (First semester only) (Prerequisite: At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA)
This dual-credit course is offered through WSU Tech College for three hours of college credit and .5 credit of high school elective credit. The course is a general introduction to the scientific study of human behavior as it applies to daily living. The scope of the course includes history, basic theories, biological bases of behavior, development, cognitive processes, individual awareness, motivation, emotion, personal adjustment, and social psychology. The cost for this class will be approximately $150.
College Sociology (11-12) (Second semester only) (Prerequisite: At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA)
This dual-credit course is offered through WSU Tech College for three hours of college credit and .5 credit of high school elective credit. The course is an introductory study to acquaint students with the influence of human social behavior. Sociology studies the processes and patterns of individual and group interaction by acquainting students with the development, characteristics, and functioning of human groups, the relationships between groups, and group influences on individual behavior. It includes the study of how social relationships are created, maintained, and changed. The cost for this class will be approximately $150.
