Physical Dimensions--Girls (Health and Physical Education) (9) (Full year)
This class is required for freshmen. The course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills needed to engage in a physically active, healthy lifestyle throughout life. The three areas of focus will be health-related fitness, lifetime physical activity, and health/wellness concepts and skills, which will include the latest information on nutrition and guidelines for CPR/AED.
Personal Fitness (10-12) (One semester) (Prerequisite: Physical Dimensions)
This class is for girls who are interested in participating in fitness based activities in order to improve overall personal wellness. Class will include activities focused on different aspects of physical fitness such as flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and muscular strength training. The fitness center will be used regularly throughout the semester to ensure a minimum of 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity is achieved in each block. Other activities will include yoga, bike riding, outdoor walks/games, circuit training, and video workout programs. This is a class for girls only and can be repeated for credit. Limit: 15
Sports and Fitness (10-12) (One semester)(Prerequisite: Physical Dimensions)
This class is for students interested in participating in traditional gym activities at a more competitive level. Students will continue to develop and improve on the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in a variety of team sport activities. Students will be strengthened physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially through competitive physical activities which push them to develop advanced skills and strategies demonstrated in game situations. Team sport activities will be played indoors and outdoors with ropes course activities included periodically. To take more than one block of Sports and Fitness in a semester, students must get permission from the instructor. This is a coed class and can be repeated for credit. Limit: 24
Strength, Power, and Speed (9-12) (One semester)
This course is designed to improve aspects of fitness that relate to personal performance. This includes improving one’s strength, power, flexibility, speed, cardiovascular fitness, muscle endurance, agility, and skill development. Reducing the risk of athletic injuries will also be emphasized. This class is for the highly motivated student who has demonstrated his/her serious interest in improving their personal performance. Types of activities included will be weight lifting: bench press, squat, cleans, deadlift, dumbbells, and variations of these lifts. Other activities will include agility drills, sprints, bounding, plyometrics, and flexibility work. Students will be evaluated daily, and they will be tested on bench, squat, clean, deadlift, 40 yard dash, pro agility, and vertical leap at the end of each semester. To take more than one block of Strength, Power, and Speed in a semester requires written permission from the instructor. This is a coed class and can be repeated for credit. Limit: 30.
PE Plus (9-12) (One semester)
This course prepares students to develop an understanding and appreciation for a lifetime of activities and games that improve the overall health and well-being of the individual. Fitness activities such as walking, biking, riding scooters, and using fitness equipment will be interwined with the class to devlop appropriate fitness related skills. Games such as badminton, tennis, pickleball, croquet, bocce ball, corn-hole, frisbee, volleyball, basketball, flag football, capture the flag, fishing, rope climbing and tying knots, scavenger hunts, bowling, card playing, dominoes, checkers/chess, and various other games will be introduced to the learner to have the knowledge and skill to develop an appreciation and understanding of the importance of play in our daily lives. This is a coed class and be repeated for credit.
A Zero Hour block of this course is available before school for students who are interested in enrolling.
