English/Speech
These courses have been used by PSEO students to fulfill high school graduation requirements. However, each high school individually determines which PSEO courses meet which requirements. Check with your high school counselor to confirm that your selected courses meet your graduation requirements.
4 college credits is generally equivalent to one year of high school instruction in a subject area
Course Search Tips
Common subjects that count for high school English and speech requirements are ENGL, ENGW and CSCL.
You can also use Schedule Builder and search for the Literature liberal education requirement.
CSCL Courses
Not all CSCL courses are literature; some are history and arts/humanities courses.
Many CSCL courses are only 3 credits. If you need a year's worth of credit at your high school, you may need to take 4 credits at the U of M to complete your high school requirement. (4-credit PSEO course = 1 year of a high school course)

WRIT 1301 gears its teaching towards writing at the U of M and using U of M resources. If you're strongly considering going elsewhere for college, it may be worth considering other English options.
Students are not able to enroll in this course in the fall of their first semester in PSEO.
For more information about how to request enrollment, see the WRIT 1301 page in this handbook.
AP Credit: If you have taken the AP Literature and Composition (with a score 4 or higher) or AP English Language & Composition (with a 3 or higher [fall 2020]; 4 or higher [fall 2021]), you will receive credit for WRIT 1301 if admitted to the U of M. Students with these scores who plan to attend the U of M should not take this course.
