The Office of Medical Education is responsible for the continuum of medical education (Admissions, UME, GME, CPD, Anatomy Bequest, and Mortuary Science). Our work is fundamental for meeting the educational goals of the medical school. I am proud of our staff and educational leaders and the work you all do to support our learners. Our work is challenging and often complex. For the past 5 years we had Austin Calhoun serving in the role of Chief of Staff for OME to support us in this work before she left to become Vice President for Communications and Development at St. Paul College. I am thrilled to introduce you to both a new title for the position, Director of OME, and to Dr. Caroline Hilk who accepted our offer and will start in this role March 31. Dr. Hilk is currently the Assistant Provost at Hamline University in St. Paul. She brings extensive experience in educational administration and strategic operations to the medical school. She is a true activator and integrator and will add value to the work we all do. A huge thank you to the search committee, led by Dimple Patel, who did an outstanding job in the search process. A special thanks to Marianne Watters who provided skilled administrative support to the committee. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Hilk to the medical school and to the Director position.
Stay well,
Mark Rosenberg, MD
Vice Dean for Education and Academic Affairs

It has been a long time coming, but the staff handbook has been completed and will be rolling out soon to OME staff! The need for a staff handbook was clear in a exercise that was done with staff a few years ago, so Marianne Watters and her admin. team submitted a proposal and were given the approval to start the project. They worked on the handbook for close to 2 years (in their "spare time"). It was ready to put into print when the pandemic hit and changed the plan to convert the printed version to a digital handbook.
Marianne met with Elizabeth Bockman-Eckberg who created a Canvas site for UME specific onboarding, and decided that this would also work well for the OME handbook. Marianne then worked with one of the student interns, Abbie Schwartz, to update the information in the handbook and create a Canvas site to house the information.
The OME Onboarding and Staff Resources site will serve as a tool for onboarding new staff and will provide existing staff with resources, current processes and policies. There will be a feedback form on the site for new staff to provide feedback on their experience with the tool, and a feedback/request form for staff to provide feedback on improvements and to request changes.
A huge thank you goes to those that worked on the handbook (physical and online version) including Cynthia Johnson, Janell Lopez, Priyanka Chaduvula (CPD), Patty Bailey (RPAP), Gretchen/Kate (GME), Tami Brown, Nou Ka Yang, Abbie Schwartz, and to Elizabeth Bockman-Eckberg for her guidance and Andrea Medina for helping with the "clean-up" in Canvas.
Expected roll out will be the first or third week of March.

"Big thanks to our advising team, Addy Irvine, Abbe Holmgren, and Luke Feuling Porter, for helping to keep me sane during our initial scheduling period. I appreciate all that you have done for me during my first year and (of course) all that you do for our students. You are the best! :) " [Corey Schultz]
"Kudos to Janell Lopez for being the super woman that she is and covering job duties of vacancies on the Clinical Education Team (in addition to doing her own job). Without her and her efforts, clinical education would have ground to a halt. Thank you!! " [Jess Blum]
"Madeline Christensen and Laurel Sweeney continue to be RPAP and MetroPAP rockstars! In times where things are still changing rapidly, when we are constantly making adjustments between in-person and virtual program activities, and when we're all learning new things and fielding curveballs, they continue to do a fantastic job of serving our current and incoming students. Thanks to both of them for all of the hard work! Also, a special shout out to student worker Blake Barber, who has become an integral part of the team and supporting RPAP processes! " [Liz Sopdie]
"Student Affairs Staff - For your amazing work bringing new advising and development opportunities to our students. You continuously put students first and make it easy for them to do the right things, and I appreciate everything you do " [Scott Davenport]

"Thank you to my incredible admin team (Cynthia Johnson, Nou Ka Yang, Monica Rogers, Hailey Kassulker) for supporting me during the past few crazy months. I could not have survived without you!" [Marianne Watters]
