Quarterly Newsletter
As most of you have heard, the LCME voted earlier this month for full accreditation of the medical school with our next accreditation visit being 2027-28. This is the maximum possible cycle length, which was the goal when we started this long LCME journey in 2018. We expect to receive the full LCME report the second week of November which will provide more details on the elements that will require ongoing monitoring. In the meantime there is much work and investment going on to make sure we continue to improve and that our students are satisfied with these improvements, which is something LCME pays close attention to. Thank you again for all who worked on LCME - there were many of you! Our current focus in UME is the launch of the new curriculum in August 2023. Other areas of OME remain busy and active. Admissions is reviewing a new cycle of applicants, GME continues to support our over 1000 residents and fellows, CPD has a full slate of fall courses along with the many department conferences that they support, Mortuary Science is in the midst of a busy school year, and the Anatomy Bequest Program is preparing for the Service of Gratitude that will be held November 9 at 7 PM in Northrup. All are invited to this very moving service.
Finally, it is a pleasure to welcome Dr. Jeffrey Chipman (back) to OME as he begins his position October 31 as Interim Senior Associate Dean for UME. Please do what you can to welcome and support Dr. Chipman in this important role.
With great appreciation,
Mark Rosenberg, MD
Vice Dean for Education and Academic Affairs
University of Minnesota Medical School

We had our first fall gathering in two years on October 27th and had a great time seeing old, new, and dressed up faces! Awards were given to those who dressed up and the over-all winning prize went to Michael Kim who came as a scary Sweeney-Todd-type baker(?).
We also celebrated the news of our full accreditation from LCME - the next site visit won't be until 2027-2028! Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen - special kudos to Mark Rosenberg, Bob Englander, Joe Oppedisano and Ali Holmay!
Reminder! Keep adding these recipes to our Remotely Good Recipe book! Looking for holiday recipes - yummy appetizers and desserts!
"Huge kudos to Megan Bauer-Erickson for all of her help with the MSPE/ERAS process as well as doing a fantastic job with the Careers in Medicine overviews on both campuses. She is already a highly valued team member and colleague. Megan hit the ground running and is making a significant positive impact on MS-1 and MS-2 program development, communications, and much more. Thank you for your many contributions and for all of your hard work!" [Maija Braaten]

She has gone above and beyond to make these connections and to improve the student experience!" [Janell Lopez]
"Thank you Maija Braaten and Megan Bauer-Erickson for all your organizing and hard work in completing the Class of 2023 MSPEs and getting them added to each students application file for residency. "A big kudos and thank you to the RPAP/MetroPAP team on delivering another fantastic orientation for our incoming RPAP and MetroPAP students. Thanks to the whole team for all your hard work!" [Liz Sopdie]
"Kudos to the Course Evaluation Response Rate Task Force for their fantastic work to address the problem of low response rates on preclinical course evaluations.
