Four faculty, Matthew Chafee, Jamie Starks, Kevin Wickman, and Matthew Young, have been awarded Clerkship + Course Director Innovation Challenge Grants for 2018-2019. Drs. Chafee and Starks will work to increase clinical correlation and continue to build on continuity with HHD5 and neurology clerkship. Dr Wickman is working to increase active learning and online components in the pharmacology course, while Dr. Young is going to work on a primary attachment for Hennepin clerkships in third year. Each project is awarded 0.1 FTE of protected time to support their innovation.
Assistant Dean of Assessment and Evaluation Claudio Violato, PhD, will lead a seminar this fall in the field of health professions education: educational theory, curriculum design, assessment and evaluation, instruction, research,professionalism, reflection, and faculty development (of interest to graduate students in education and psychology, physicians, nurses, dentists, vet medicine, pharmacology, public health, etc.). Medical Educator Scholarship and Development (MEDS) is delighted to announce this new monthly session open to all faculty, staff and trainees focused on medical education scholarship. Sessions are held the 4th Friday of the month from 11 am -12 pm. This structured hour long conference allows faculty to present their medical education projects (at any stage, including conception, grant preparation, data analysis, and manuscript/presentation preparation). Faculty are welcome to express their interest here and you will be contacted to schedule your session.
The Herz Faculty Teaching Development Awards (HFTDA) program supports faculty activities designed to improve the quality of medical education by both enhancing faculty teaching skills and sharing those skills with our faculty community. Proposals should identify significant needs for improving the quality of education at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and should describe activities designed to enhance the development of an individual or group of faculty members as educators and teachers.
