We will have two OME interns for the summer - Monday through Thursday from 8:00-4:00. Natalie Hagen and Will Baldwin will be working on projects in OME and will work with the A&E and Course Management teams on designated days/times. If you have projects for them to work on over the summer, complete a work request form (z.umn.edu/intern_workrequest)
The Assessment and Evaluation team, in conjunction with Health Sciences Technology, is transitioning from E*Value to MedHub as our technology platform for clerkship evaluations. We currently plan to go live with MedHub at the start of the Fall 2019 semester. While E*Value will be retired at that time, previously-collected evaluation data will remain accessible in E*Value indefinitely.
In order to ensure a smooth transition, we will be providing MedHub training for clerkship coordinators and relevant staff over the summer, and we will also be providing training documentation for students and faculty/preceptors. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you work closely with E*Value and would like to let us know what your needs are as we plan this transition, please contact Eric Martin LaPlant at lapl0061@umn.edu and Jackie Gauer at gauer027@umn.edu.
New Duty Hours Policy Announcement
In response to student concerns and feedback regarding the learning environment in the clinical years, a task force of students, faculty, residents, and medical school leaders were charged with revising the Duty Hours policy. This group grappled with the challenge of proposing a new policy that would promote both student wellness and learning in the clinical environment.
Based on the task force's discussions, a new policy was purposed and unanimously approved by both the Clinical Education Committee and Education Council.
In this new policy, which will be piloted in SP3 and SP4 of this year, students will have two consecutive days off every two weeks, and at least one day off every seven days. They will also have 1/2 weekday off every two weeks for Independent Learning Time (ILT).
We are currently evaluating the new policy during this pilot period by surveying students every two weeks to record their hours worked, days off, ILT time, and any impressions or feedback they would like to share.
On behalf of the taskforce, I [Jess Blum, Director of Integrated Education - Clinical Science] want to thank everyone for putting in many hours of thoughtful discussion and schedule changes in the attempt to make the clinical experience even better for the students!

"In my role as Director for Pipeline Programs, my work centers around helping premedical students from under-represented and under-resourced communities prepare for medical school. I am responsible for the Minnesota Future Doctors and BA/MD Joint Admissions programs. I meet regularly with the students participating in these programs, and work with staff to develop and assess activities.
The work done through Pipeline Programs helps premedical students develop the competencies, confidence, and community needed to succeed as they matriculate to the Medical School."
[When not at work] "I am an active member of my church and help to lead our ministry for Single Mothers. I also volunteer in the community as a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and as a Life Advocate for UpWorks MN. Lastly, I am raising 2 children, my son, Isaiah and niece, Mayah. They keep me on my toes (and on my knees in prayer)."

"Kudos to Jodi Brenden-Amir for being selected from a pool of applicants to serve as a volunteer surveyor for Joint Accreditation (JA) for Interprofessional Continuing Education. In addition to supporting the review process, this experience will provide Jodi and the Office of Continuing Professional Development the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of JA criteria, interprofessional continuing education, and insight into the scope of IPCE in other organizations, including those that are not academic institutions.
