In this Social Studies unit, children will have the opportunity learn more about the main characteristics of North American First Nation cultures and the attitudes of early European explorers. Students will need a parent or other helper to guide them through these activities and help them discuss the reflection questions.
Students will describe the characteristics of Native peoples before European contact and they will recognize the motivations of the explorers in coming to North America. Students will also analyze the interactions between the First Nation peoples and the European explorers to identify the effects of cooperation and the reasons for disagreement between these two groups.
