The monthly academic day is broken down into 24 topics over the two-year residency program. Each day is composed of a small group interactive portion and a large group didactic learning portion. Small group activities can include Problem Based Small Group learning modules (McMaster modules), journal article reviews, ethics case reviews and practice exam questions.
Research will be presented at three urban Academic Half Days (AHDs) during each academic year. Each 1⁄2 hour presentation will be made by a team of presenters that will include:
investigators presenting a project in keeping with the theme of the AHD; and
content experts (e.g. methodologists, ethics, and/or privacy) to address the research topic.
Academic Days are held regularly on the second Wednesday every month during the course of the two year family medicine program. Academic Day topics are on a two year rotating schedule.
Attendance at all Academic Days is mandatory in person and required for program completion. The only exception to this is during Rural Rotation where you will attend via Zoom.
Residents must be freed from any clinical duties to attend this mandatory activity, this includes being post-call.
Any unexcused absences may be kept on a resident’s permanent file and will require an explanation in writing to the program.
The Program may require completion of an additional assignment or supplemental activity in lieu of an absence from a mandatory activity.
