Dear Residents,
Welcome to U of A Family Medicine!
We are excited to introduce ourselves as the current and incoming FMRA (Family Medicine Residents Association) Co-Leads, and to help you start to make your transition to residency as enjoyable as possible. First and foremost: Breathe, you made it! The upcoming few months will be quite hectic and we are here to help you through it! This will be the first of several welcome emails you can expect from us over the next few weeks and months.
We have prepared a list of links and resources that may be most helpful to you in the first few months. Please don’t be overwhelmed by it – the links are there just for your reference and to come back to if you need them. Many of these links as well as links to other resources you might find useful during your residency, can be found in the Resident Resources section.

FMRA Positions
On a yearly basis, we need new resident involvement to keep the FMRA strong and vibrant! We strongly encourage you to consider getting involved in the FMRA by applying for one of the many opportunities, from site reps to committees to executive roles. Vacant positions will be advertised soon via email, so keep an eye out! You can also check out the different committees under About🡪 Committees on the FMRA website.
We are excited to meet all of you very soon! We know the start of residency can be overwhelming with all the paperwork and hundreds of emails that come your way. If you have questions during this process, don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly or take advantage of the Facebook group OR WhatsApp group to ask your fellow residents. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns at fmlead@ualberta.ca.
This year will come with many unique challenges, as most of your medical journey probably has, but we are here to serve the interests of our resident colleagues and to help make this the best year possible.
Your incoming 2025-2026 FMRA Co-Leads,
Jamil Kassam and Lauren Campeau
