FieldNotes

FieldNotes are a documentation tool to help residents, preceptors and advisors capture a sampling of the formative feedback that is shared in the workplace. A FieldNote could be about:

• an observed resident-patient interaction,

• a diagnosis or management discussion,

• a procedure,

• a presentation,

• a team interaction, etc.

Possible observers would include a preceptor or advisor, a nurse, a patient or family member (via the preceptor) or a peer.

• A minimum of 45 FieldNotes per year

• One FieldNote per week from a preceptor or Faculty Advisor

• All FieldNotes are to be entered in the eCBAS system

• Residents are also encouraged to enter their own FieldNotes of feedback received for later reflection
