COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course concentrates on intellectual property (IP) law and policy in the international context. We analyse core principles of, and conflicts within, international IP law, with a focus on copyright and patents. It examines urgent global discussions surrounding the nature and appropriate scope of IP, including impacts on public health, education, innovation, human rights, sustainable development, and Indigenous peoples. Students will review key provisions of major international IP treaties, including emerging legal protections being considered for traditional knowledge and cultural expressions.
SPECIAL COMMENTS
This is an advanced intellectual property course. It is limited to students who have completed or are concurrently enrolled in LAW 518 - Intellectual Property.
