Taking ownership for your learning means you check this on a weekly basis. Here's how you log in:

Why are we doing this? First, this is a deeper dive into African culture which has been the focus of our studies with A Long Walk to Water and expanding our cultural awareness in Social Studies, and, we are showing reading comprehension through our recreations of the stories on scratch! Plus, it's fun to code!
I came across this image the other day! How does it relate to what Salva has said in his life? What is the metaphor?

WEEK 14
Music. Writing about music is an art in itself, often challenging writers to translate sounds into colorful turns of phrase and rich metaphors. Music critic Tim Rutherford-Johnson, for instance, once compared a rugged piece of music to "granite in November rain." Find a piece of music that appeals to you, and try to describe it to someone who has never heard it.
Reverence. Reverence is defined as "deep respect for someone or something." Write about something that you regard with reverence.
Due Dec. 13
Why are we writing the two-voice poem? 1- repeat exposure to the text improves comprehension, 2- constructing the poem using quotes from the book to show similarities and differences in the experiences of the main characters gives us the opportunity to analyze the characters and how and why their stories are juxtaposed in the text.
Why are we writing questions for Jeopardy? To review the concepts of conflict in literature and reinforce reading comprehension and analysis of the book.

Waiting. There is no anticipation quite like the days counting down to Christmas morning or another holiday that is meaningful to you and your family. Write about how that felt for you as a young child — or how it still feels today.
Generosity. It feels good to help others. Write about a time you helped someone — who they were, why you did it, and how it all turned out.

Here is a story that has been published on the site-- that could be you! Your stories are just as good, if not better!
Do you have a personal story about how Stowe Land Trust has made a difference in your life? Perhaps a memorable hike, meaningful time with family, a life-changing event, or a reason why you visited, moved, or stayed here. Your stories - all of them - add up to why we do this important land conservation work. So please share them with us. Whether several words, a few paragraphs, or a photo, we want to hear from you. Thanks for sharing your story!
FYI- Thank you Brandon!
Sudan, once the largest and one of the most geographically diverse states in Africa, split into two countries in July 2011 after the people of the south voted for independence.
The government of Sudan gave its blessing to an independent South Sudan, where the mainly Christian and Animist people had for decades been struggling against rule by the Arab Muslim north.
This is what Erin sent us about this issue-- connection to Science?
By using less water, we don't need to treat and pump so much water, so less money needs to be spent on energy, chemicals and on additional reservoirs or boreholes.
Reducing the amount of energy used in the pumping of water reduces our carbon emissions, which contributes to greenhouse gases, and leads to climate change.
Less chemicals used in the treatment of water and wastewater means there is less energy and materials used in their production, and less by products to contend with.
Reducing waste in your home or business means that we reduce the amount of water that has to be treated or that uses energy unnecessarily. Water that goes straight down the drain without being properly used is a waste and is costly to you, the environment and us.
