Welcome to 4th grade for the 2026-2027 school year! I am so happy that you are here! Please familiarize yourself with our class website and bookmark this page so that you can refer to it all year long.
A note from your teacher:
It has been a great first full week of school! This week we have been learning the "flow" of our ELA block routines and rotations. We started reading our first B.E.S.T book, Where the Red Fern Grows. I remember the joy of reading that book when I was their age. During social studies, we've been reviewing the roles of historians and cartographers. Soon we will be making our own maps! Just as a reminder, everyday we do have snack around 9:30 that students bring from home. A non-messy, healthier option is encouraged. We are off to a promising start!

Homework
Reading: Each evening, dedicate 20-30 minutes of reading any book of their choice. It is important to have discussions about what they are reading: Who are the main characters and what are they like? What is the main conflict of the story? How do you connect to what is going on in the book? These discussions allow you the opportunity to bond with your student through literature and to ensure they are understanding what they are reading.
Spelling/Vocabulary Words: Each week students are encouraged to practice their spelling and vocabulary words to ensure they understand them. On Fridays, we take our word app test which supports the word application work your student has been completing daily during the ELA block. Some suggestions to make practice more fun: turn the vocabulary words and definitions into a matching game, rainbow write the words in different colors for words they are struggling with the spelling, or even play a game of hangman with their spelling words. In an effort to ensure your student is staying on track with their learning, if they are not completing their word app work during class time, they will be expected to complete it at home that evening as homework.
