What's going on in class ....
We will wrap up our decimal unit this week with an assessment on Tuesday. We have learned to add and subtract numbers to the thousandths place value by lining up numbers by place value. Next up ... fractions!
In Science class, we have been studying weather terms as we complete a flip book on climate zones. We will have an assessment on Wednesday with our weather terms (students have been building a vocabulary sheet throughout the unit).
Day to day items that can be used to support students in both math and science can be located on our Google classrooms. Each student has access to both a math and a science classroom.
Mrs. Wilding’s Classroom Behavior System and Management Plan
5th Grade 2025-2026
In order that all students in my classroom have a positive learning environment this school year, I will utilize the following school-wide discipline plan.
Philosophy: All students have the ability to behave properly in our classroom. Teaching and learning should not be interrupted by students choosing to not follow classroom expectations.
VCS Golden Guidelines
Be on time and where you are supposed to be. (prompt)
Be prepared and on task. (prepared)
Ask for what you need. (positive)
Strive for excellence and always do your best. (productive)
Respect the rights, responsibilities, and property of others. (polite)
Every day is a new day! We focus on the positives.
Classroom Rules and Procedures
The three R’s to keep our classroom running smoothly:
Be respectful
Be responsible
Use restraint
Positive Individual Behavior Reinforcement System
Student tickets are a visual behavior management tool where students earn tickets for exhibiting positive behaviors. As students earn tickets, they will write on the ticket which Core Value they demonstrated. At the end of each month, students can use tickets to buy prizes from the classroom store.
Positive Whole Class Behavior Reinforcement System
When the class meets explicitly stated objectives (i.e. we will quiet our voices when asked, we will walk in the hallway with no talking, we will each ask a partner at least one on task question, etc.), a student will choose a box on a grid to color. At the end of each week, a student will randomly draw a grid location, and, if the square is colored, the students will be rewarded with a prize.
