Students should be reading EVERY day! Encourage reading a variety of genres.

Florida During the Industrial Age

SS.4.A.4.1 Explain the effects of technological advances on Florida.

SS.4.A.6.1 Describe the economic development of Florida’s major industries.

SS.4.A.6.2 Summarize contributions immigrant groups made to Florida.

SS.4.A.6.3 Describe the contributions of significant individuals to Florida. 

SS.4.A.6.4 Describe effects of the Spanish American War on Florida.

SS.4.A.8.4 Explain how tourism affects Florida’s economy and growth. 

SS.4.E.1.1 Identify entrepreneurs from various social and ethnic backgrounds who have influenced Florida and local economy.

Daily Homework: Read every day!  Students should journal after every book they have read. Short books should have more journal entries. Longer chapter books should have summaries throughout the book. The intent is always to read and summarize to build understanding.  Every other week, students will have Word Application homework. This has replaced traditional spelling tests over the years. The homework practice page helps students to decode words by using word parts such as Greek or Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes. The students will need to know the spelling of these words, as well as the common valuable words located on the word list. Word lists are glued in your child's agenda. Students will need to know the various definitions of the multiple-meaning word and how the shades of meaning of words are related to intensity or strength.
