Credits and other completion requirements
Students are required to earn a minimum of 30 credits in the required courses. However, students who are going to be assessed in the examination of their research results on specified subjects, as provided for in Article 12 of the Toyo University Graduate School Academic Rules and Regulations, must earn 32 credits or more in the required courses.
Students are required to, in each semester, take a “Special Lecture for International Tourism Studies” (Research Advising) provided by their main academic supervisor on international tourism management and earn the credits. Up to 8 credits earned will be recognized as requirements for completion.
Course requirements
Students should consult with their academic supervisors before deciding which courses they will take.
There will be 2 academic supervisors: a main supervisor and a co-supervisor.
However, there may be 2 co-supervisors at the discretion of the main supervisor.
Students are required to take a “Special Lecture (Research Advising) for International Tourism Studies” provided by their main academic supervisor every semester, and they must earn 8 credits for completion. If students earned 8 or more credits, up to 8 credits earned will be accepted as credits for completion requirements.
Students may take and earn credits for "lectures" or "seminars" at the graduate school any number of times during their enrollment.
However, it can only be counted as a credit toward completion requirements once. Credits earned after the second time cannot be counted toward completion requirements.
For students who enrolled for 2 academic years, 4 semesters or more, they must register for a "Master's Degree Thesis" or a "Specific Research Paper" in the semester in which they plan to complete their studies.
In addition to courses in students’ major Course, they may take courses in other graduate schools and Courses as well as courses at other universities (partner universities).
The courses must be those deemed educationally necessary by the academic supervisors. Permission of the academic supervisors is required.
These courses can be counted as credits toward completion requirements in the same way as courses in the student's Course. The basic rule is the same as 3. above.
However, the total number of credits earned for the completion requirement must not exceed 20 credits, including credits earned before entering the graduate school and deemed to have been earned by taking courses in the graduate school (previously earned credits). Additionally, in this case, the number of credits that can be applied toward completion requirements is limited to 15 credits.
(1) (Credits acquired prior to enrollment that have been approved as previously earned credits: Up to 15 credits)
(2) (Credits earned at other universities, including overseas universities, other graduate schools, or other departments of the university: up to 15 credits)
(A total of 20 credits from (1) and (2) may be used toward completion of the program.)
Please note that credits for one course may not be split. You may not split the credits of a two-credit course and count only one credit towards the completion requirement.
For example, if a student has taken the 2-credits courses listed in (2) above, a maximum of 7 courses and 14 credits will be accepted as credit towards completion requirements (and up to a total of 20 credits with the courses listed in (1) above).
