Support for international students

Tutor system for international students

This is a support system in which mainly Japanese graduate students support international students with Japanese language instruction and other support related to their research.

Japanese language support for international students

Toyo University offers support according to the Japanese language level of international students, such as improving their basic Japanese language skills and correcting their reports and papers when they write them.

Main Japanese language support services

■ Japanese Language Support Service

International students can have their paper, report, or manuscript for presentation checked in Japanese.

Japanese STEP UP courses are mainly for enhancing particular skills such as conversation, Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) preparation, grammar, reading, and listening. There are various levels of courses from zero beginners to advanced students. Most of the courses are one-to-one lessons and small class group lessons so that you will be able to focus on your weakness at your own pace to pursue your learning objectives.

This program focuses especially on Japanese writings, which is probably the most difficult part of Japanese learning for international students. Since all the courses are one-to-one 40 minutes of individual lessons, students can easily realize their mistakes and any levels of Japanese learners can overcome their weaknesses in writing at their own pace. In this program, students will obtain skills on how to write academic papers required in the university classes and business writings beneficial for job hunting and business scenes.

This program is designed for international students who are interested in working in Japan. It aims to help the students understand and conduct logical and professional communication in Japanese, which will be useful not only in business settings but also in academic environments.

Toyo University offers intense Japanese language and culture courses per semester. The goal of the courses is to help the exchange students increase their proficiency to a level that allows them to pursue their academic interests and enjoy campus life to the fullest. Students who have not passed level 1 (N1) or level 2 (N2) of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), are recommended to take this program.

Japanese Language and Culture Courses (NEST) do not count toward graduate school completion requirements.
