When submitting a master’s thesis or a research paper, students are required to obtain their academic supervisors’ approval, and submit it with a thesis abstract to the Education Affairs Section for Graduate Schools. Please note that a thesis or a paper can be accepted only on the date and at the time indicated below.
When students do not submit a master’s thesis or a research paper, they need to take one of the following procedures for the next academic year or semester: “repeating (extension of the period of enrollment),” “withdrawal from graduate school” or “absence from graduate school.” Relevant students are required to notify the Education Affairs Section for Graduate Schools by early July (for semester system Course students only) or early January.

For further information on the submission of a master’s thesis or a research paper, students must refer to the “Master’s Thesis/Research Paper Submission Guidelines,” which will be distributed in middle of May (for students expecting to complete their course in September) or in middle of November (for students expecting to complete their course in March).

A master’s thesis and its abstract should be prepared by PC. (For a research paper, see the pages in which the submission requirements provided by the relevant Courses.) The format, number of pages, and number of characters are described below. The “Master’s Thesis/Research Paper Submission Guidelines” discloses further information on a master’s thesis and an abstract such as the required number of copies, how to bind the thesis, if you need to submit the hardcover thesis or not after submitting the temporal bound thesis, etc.
Students who belong to the following Courses of the Graduate Schools must follow the preparation guidelines specified by their Courses in addition to the above "Notes on Preparation of a master’s thesis or a research paper (format, number of pages, word count, etc.)"
When accepting a master’s thesis, the graduate school committee elects an academic supervisor and 1 or more instructors in charge of courses related to the relevant thesis (an instructor in charge of research advising must be included) as thesis examiners. One of them is appointed as the chief thesis examiner and the rest of them as deputy thesis examiners through discussions among the committee members. Moreover, instructors in charge of courses related to the relevant thesis and other members (including adjunct lecturers) may be added as deputy thesis examiners through discussions among the committee members, if this is necessary for the review of the thesis.
A final examination is conducted for students who have submitted a thesis.
The final examination is conducted orally, dealing with not only the thesis but also courses related to the thesis.
The schedule of the final examination is announced each time.
The pass-fail judgment of a master’s thesis or the research paper is made in a comprehensive manner based on the results of the review of the thesis or paper and the final examination.
For students whose thesis or paper has passed the review and the final examination, the pass-judgment is posted on the bulletin board and disclosed the announcement of students who have met the completion requirements through ToyoNet-G, after the number of credits that they have earned is checked.
The thesis or paper that has passed the review and the final examination will be stored, and made available for public perusal at Toyo University.
