International students of JICA Development Studies Program must take both "Global PPP Finance" and "PPP BasicsⅠ(Theory and History)” and earn credits.
Course requirements
Please consult with your academic supervisors to determine which courses you will take, referring to the guidance for your major Course at the time of enrollment.
Please select 1 instructor from among those in charge of the “Seminars on Public- Private Partnership” as your academic supervisor.
Please select 1 or 2 co-supervisors under the advice of your academic supervisor. Co-supervisors must be selected from among Professors, Special Appointed Professors, Associate Professors, and Visiting Professors who teach “Seminars on Public-Private Partnership” or lecture courses during the academic year.
You may change your academic supervisor or co-supervisors each semester.
You may only take the "Seminar in Civics and Public Affairs" taught by your academic supervisor every semester in principle.
You are required to take the "Seminar in Civics and Public Affairs" of your main academic supervisor every semester.
However, only if your academic main supervisor agrees that it is necessary for you to take the lecture for the purpose of academic guidance, you may take another lecture course offered in the same period as your academic supervisor’s "Seminar in Civics and Public Affairs".
It is not required to take the "Seminar in Civics and Public Affairs" offered by your co-supervisor. Please consult with your main supervisor before deciding.
You may take and earn credits for "lectures" or "seminars" at the graduate school any number of times during their enrollment and all credits can be counted as credits toward completion requirements.
However, registration may be limited due to class management.
International students are required to take either “PPP Theory” , “PPP BasicsⅠ(Theory and History)” or “PPP BasicsⅡ(Methods and Institutions).”
International students of JICA Development Studies Program are required to take both "Global PPP Finance" and "PPP BasicsⅠ(Theory and History).”
For students who enrolled for 2 academic years, 4 semesters or more, they must register for a "Master's Degree Thesis" or a "Specific Research Paper" in the semester in which they plan to complete their studies.
In addition to courses in your major Course, you may take courses in other graduate schools and Courses as well as courses at other universities (partner universities).
The courses must be those deemed educationally necessary by your academic supervisors. Permission of your academic supervisors is required.
These courses can be counted as credits toward completion requirements in the same way as courses in your Course. The basic rule is the same as 3. above.
However, the total number of credits earned for the completion requirement must not exceed 20 credits, including credits earned before entering the graduate school and deemed to have been earned by taking courses in the graduate school (previously earned credits). Additionally, in this case, the number of credits that can be applied toward completion requirements is limited to 15 credits.
(1) (Credits acquired prior to enrollment that have been approved as previously earned credits: Up to 15 credits)
(2) (Credits earned at other universities, including overseas universities, other graduate schools, or other departments of the university: up to 15 credits)
(A total of 20 credits from (1) and (2) may be used toward completion of the program.
Please note that credits for one course may not be split. You may not split the credits of a two-credit course and count only one credit towards the completion requirement.
For example, if a student has taken the 2-credits courses listed in (2) above, a maximum of 7 courses and 14 credits will be accepted as credit towards completion requirements (and up to a total of 20 credits with the courses listed in (1) above).
How to take courses in other graduate schools and majors
How to take courses at other universities (partner universities)
The educational method adopts on-demand classes, real-time online classes on weekdays and in-person classes on campus on Saturdays. If students need to take real-time online classes on Saturday for reasons such as living in a remote area and work, they will be able to do so by notifying in advance. In addition, students will be allowed to freely view recorded files of all the courses (lectures and seminars) they take, in principle.
※For completion, you are required to write a master’s thesis or the research paper, participate in (interim and final) thesis presentation sessions, and pass an oral examination.
※Students in other Courses are not allowed to take lectures and seminars offered in this course.
* In this Course, we encourage participation and presentation in overseas surveys, researches and academic conferences as part of research advising in order to deepen students’ own researches.
