Why Geography?

Our children will learn to be Geographers because we want to inspire a curiosity in and a fascination about their world: its people and its diversity. We think it is important for our children to learn this because they need to understand how our world has evolved and the importance of looking after it. We believe it will help them to make a positive contribution to their planet and to respect and accept difference.

Pupil Voice

Collective Council spoke to children in each class about their Geography learning. This is what they found out...

Reception children learn about where rain comes from and create cloud pictures using mirrors.

Year 1 children locate countries and identify climates.

Year 4 children identify patterns in climate in the UK and North America.

Year 6 children calculate time zones and link this to their science learning on Earth and Space.

We teach Geography using a scheme called Connected which is an enquiry based programme.

Each geography lesson begins with a question and leads our children through an investigation using high quality resources, collecting key geographic knowledge and vocabulary as they go.

At the end of the lesson our children have time to reflect on what they have learnt in order to answer the question.
