At Ixworth Church of England Primary School we have a strong culture of safeguarding.

Our children tell us they feel safe and happy and listened to.

They know where to go and what to do if they are worried about something.

Being a small school has its advantages: every member of staff knows every child and we pride ourselves on having positive relationships based on respect. Each of our classrooms has a small, cosy book nook ideal for quiet times and a worry monster waiting to hear about children’s concerns. We have regular PSHE lessons and teaching staff respond in the moment as things happen with circle times where these are needed.

Our Pupil Wellbeing Lead works across the school to promote positive mental health amongst our children and to support individuals who are having a tricky time. She works closely with our parents and carers as well as other external agencies offering 1:1 time, small group support, class observations as well as championing wellbeing at playtimes.

In addition to the lunchtime support on offer in the playground we provide Pit Stop which is an alternative lunchtime break space for children who don’t enjoy the hustle and bustle of playtimes. This is staffed by familiar adults and well resourced to provide children with a range of activities according to their age and interests.

The Wellbeing Hub is a special space in our school for children and adults to go to when they are feeling sad or worried. It is well resourced with bespoke equipment to promote relaxation and to explore feelings in a safe and calm environment. You will always find a friendly face ready to listen and help!

Our school dog Bowie always makes us smile. We love to give him cuddles and take him for walks.

Forest Schools is a great way to build our friendships, develop our resilience and relax in the outdoors. We enjoy Forest Schools as part of our curriculum every week.

"Ixworth CE Primary School has provided a wealth of evidence to show it is working securely at the BRONZE level for Mental Health Support, with elements of the silver level emerging in some areas. With a cohort of only 130 children, it is a small community, and the staff work together and look after each other very well. The head teacher is a positive role model and has led the way to motivate and commit all the staff to create a healthy learning environment. This means that the well-being of pupils, staff and parents is at the forefront of everything the school does."
