On a journey together where learning has no limits. "They will soar on wings like eagles." Isaiah 40:31
At Ixworth CE Primary School, physical education is a vital part of our commitment to the whole child. Our pupils consistently tell us that PE is one of their favourite lessons and we recognise that regular physical activity is crucial for good mental wellbeing.
Thanks to the Sports Premium funding, we are able to enhance the quality and breadth of PE and sport opportunities for all pupils. Our teaching staff are confident and well supported to deliver high-quality PE lessons, meeting the government’s recommendation of at least two hours of statutory PE per week.
Beyond the curriculum, we offer a rich and varied extra-curricular programme including dance, gymnastics, boxercise, basketball, tennis, parkour and football. Structured games and activities are also available during lunchtimes, led by trained adults and school staff, encouraging active play and engagement throughout the school day.
Our extensive facilities, including basketball courts, a barked adventure area, astro-turf, climbing frames and a large adjacent field, provide ample space for active play and sport. Our playground features a variety of equipment and play-zones, such as an imagination station, hopscotch, den building and targets, supporting diverse physical activities.
We work closely with Gipping Valley and Thurston School Sport Partnership to offer a range of after-school clubs, fostering strong relationships between coaches, staff and pupils. Our pupils regularly participate in inter-school competitive events as well as intra-school competitions, promoting teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship.
Through Key Stage 2 residentials, pupils experience outdoor and adventurous activities including team building, caving, forest schools, go-karting, archery and climbing, further enriching their physical education experience.
Our approach aligns with OFSTED’s key indicators for Sports Premium funding, focusing on:
Engaging all pupils in regular physical activity, including at least 30 active minutes during the school day,
Raising the profile of PE and sport as a tool for whole-school improvement,
Increasing staff confidence and skills in delivering high-quality PE,
Providing a broad range of sports and activities accessible to all pupils,
Boosting participation in competitive sport both within and beyond the school.
At Ixworth CE Primary, we are dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of physical activity, ensuring every child is active, confident and challenged in a supportive and inclusive environment.
