At Ixworth Primary School, our children tell us that PE is one of their favourite lessons, and we believe that physical activity is key to good mental wellbeing.
Our teaching staff are confident and well supported to deliver high-quality PE lessons.
In addition to the statutory two hours of PE per week, we offer a wide range of extracurricular physical activities, including dance, gymnastics, yoga, boxercise, basketball, tennis, parkour and football. Children also have opportunities to take part in structured games at lunchtimes.
We have plenty of space for active play, including basketball courts, a barked adventure area, astro-turf, and access to a large adjacent field.
At playtimes, trained adults lead children in a variety of fun and engaging activities. Our playground also features climbing frames, tyres, an imagination station, hopscotch, targets and grids, providing a wide range of outdoor play opportunities.
Working closely with Gipping Valley and Thurston School Sport Partnership, we offer a variety of after-school clubs throughout the year. Our strong relationships with coaches mean they get to know our children well and our children get to know them too!
Our pupils have the opportunity to take part in inter-school competitive sporting events, as well as intra-school competitions.
Through Key Stage 2 residentials, we also offer a range of outdoor and adventurous activities, including team building, caving, forest schools, go-karting, archery and climbing.
At Ixworth Primary, we are committed to inspiring a lifelong love of physical activity and providing enriching opportunities for every child to be active, confident and challenged.
