Feeding

Feeding

Developing feeding skills starts from the act of swallowing and chewing to eating with utensils.  For some children, feeding can be a challenge when the variety of foods ingested is limited.  Children can have feeding challenges for different reasons. These reasons might include sensory sensitivities (e.g., aversion to the look, smell, texture, taste of food, etc.), oral motor delays (e.g.,difficulty with moving the tongue inside the mouth, chewing with molars, etc.), behavioural challenges (e.g., attention seeking, having control with preferred foods, etc.), underlying medical concerns (e.g., intestinal motility, reflux, etc.) , environmental and family dynamics (e.g., seating and positioning, schedule of meals, family food preferences, etc.).
