Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Physiotherapists (PTs) are healthcare professionals with educational training of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy that require supervised practicums and successful completion of a licensing exam. OTs and PTs are registered health professionals with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO), respectively. TDSB OT/PT Staff members implement services through a tiered service model with a focus on mitigating barriers that may interfere with school participation in daily activities by supporting students in developing new skills through unique methods, regain skills, adapt or accommodate with equipment, materials, and/or the environment. In addition, TDSB OT/PT staff members consult on maximizing, maintaining, and/or restoring mobility, function, and well being with our students through the lens of rehabilitation, injury prevention, health, fitness, and independence building with adaptations or accommodations in performance, environment, and/or equipment.
At the TDSB, OT/PT staff members provide support to students and their school teams through a variety of strategies, via a tiered service model, including consultation, assessment, modelling, classroom-based programming, and professional development to maximize student function, participation, and inclusion in the school setting. Our services function through collaboration with school teams, families, multi-disciplinary professionals, and community partners.
