*NEW* Minister's Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement
The new Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement is for students who earn 50 or more community involvement hours. Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, graduating students are eligible to receive one certificate based on the hours volunteered and submitted to Ms. Barber (Guidance Secretary) BY APRIL 24th 2026. The Recognition for Community Involvement certificate has 3 levels of distinction: Bronze (50-99 hours), Silver (100-199 hours) and Gold (200+ hours).
ANY HOURS EARNED AFTER APRIL 24th 2026 will NOT be counted towards your Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement certificate. These hours will be entered into the system but you will not be given credit towards a higher level of distinction. Only volunteer hours earned and submitted prior to April 24th will be recognized. Students who graduated in Semester 1 (even if they are still enrolled in Semester 2) can only get their hours accumulated as of their graduation date. If you are still handing in hours thereafter, they are not be counted towards the certificate levels.
IF YOUR HOURS AREN'T IN, YOU DON'T WIN.
For example:
Scenario 1: Jocelyn has 99 volunteer hours and submits 15 hours on May 5th (even though she completed these hours prior to April 24th 2026)= Jocelyn will earn a Bronze certificate.
Scenario 2: Jocelyn has 99 volunteer hours and submits 15 hours on April 24th = Jocelyn will earn a Silver certificate
Scenario 3: Jocelyn has 99 volunteer hours and submits 15 hours on April 25th (even though hours were completed in January 2026 = Jocelyn will earn a bronze certificate.
A student is eligible for a Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement if they:
have completed at least 50 community involvement hours
have their hours recorded and verified by the school principal
have not yet received their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC), or Certificate of Accomplishment (COA).
