ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM FOR 16-18 YEAR OLDS

The 16-18 program was developed to meet the needs of students who are experiencing difficulty achieving success at their present high school.

Supervised Alternative Learning  (SAL)

Supervised Alternative Learning (SAL) is an option under the Education Act that allows alternative programming for secondary students, aged 14-18 who find they are not benefiting within the regular school system. 

Transition To Work Program

The  Transition To Work (T2W) Program provides students Students 18-20 years  with special needs the opportunity to learn workplace skills in a supportive environment as they transition from secondary school experiences into the world of work pathway, while incorporating literacy and numeracy skills for everyday living.

SWAC

SWAC

SWAC is an alternate program offered through Msgr. Fraser College School that allows students to complete their OSSD while taking courses (high school and college) on a college campus.

SWAC is an alternate program offered through Msgr. Fraser College School that allows students to complete their OSSD while taking courses (high school and college) on a college campus. Students can earn up to 5 credits in the semester. Students will take two college dual credit courses and up to three more high school credits with a dedicated TCDSB teacher focused on helping you finish high school. It’s a great way for students to start transitioning to a post-secondary education while having the ultimate college reach ahead experience.

Open to Gr.12 students

 

Students are considered full-time students of Seneca College and have access to all of its facilities. We will have a dedicated classroom at Seneca Newnham campus. Seneca’s vaccine policy will no longer be in effect but masks will still be required in classrooms


The college dual credits delivered as part of the program will be online, but students still get free daily Transportation to school, OCAS application fees covered, and a college career advisor.

WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM OFFER?

The SWAC Program takes place at Humber College North Campus. It provides students the opportunity to complete their high school diploma, earn 2 College level credits in a post-secondary environment. The program recruitment is done twice a year prior to each semester (September and March). Students can earn up to 4 high school credits in one semester plus 2 college courses.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

· Students should be between the ages of 17-20

· At risk of not graduating, disengaged, underachieving and/or in need of a change in school environment

· Apprenticeship and/or college bound

BENEFITS

· SWAC students are provided with public transit fares

· A snack program throughout the semester

· Students will be registered as college students, receive a student number and identification card

· Access to all college services space (Gym, Library, Computer labs, math & English centre) and events

· An official transcript will be provided at the end of the course upon request

CONTINUOUS INTAKE CO-OP

Centennial, Humber and Seneca are all offering Dual Credits. Students will gain 1 OSSD and 1 college credit during their 55 hours of instruction.

 George Brown will host our Summer SWAC session at their Lakeshore Campus. This runs Monday - Friday and students will gain 3 credits (including 1 dual credit) during the month of July.

1) Ensure the student meets the CRITERIA for participating in the program

(In accordance with Dual Credit Policy and Program Requirements, 2020):


* is disengaged/underachieving, with potential for success; and

* working toward an OSSD or SHSM red seal requirements (DC can count for up to two majors);

* registered in classes at a TCDSB high school;

* preferrably enrolled in or completed ENG3C


Students who have already earned the OSSD are not eligible to participate in the dual credit program.

2) Ensure there is a place on the timetable for the dual credit course to be scheduled.

3) Complete the Request for Dual Credit Course google form with the student using the following link:

5) Acceptances will be sent via email and may include College specific registration documents.

Information on the Orientation dates and times is usually available a week or two before the semester starts and will be emailed directly to students.

This is the TCDSB dual credit consent form that each student must complete (this form allows us to share student information with the college).   

Are you behind on credits, or want exposure to the different programs and career pathways that participating Colleges can offer? Consider Dual Credits! These online College dual credit courses are a semester long, and if successfully completed, can earn you a high school elective credit as well as a college credit. 

Dual credit courses are suited for Gr. 11 & 12 students who may be:

Types of classes include: (Video Game Design, Vehicle Inspection, Film Studies, Business Management, Flight Attendant Procedures, Construction Safety, Fashion Design, etc.,)

As a reminder, the dual credit can also be applied as a SHSM major for related sectors, and up to four dual credits can count toward an OSSD as electives. Students can earn a college credit by successfully completing a course offered by one of our local college partners, as well as an additional high school credit which counts towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

continuous in-take coop (CIC) Program information 

The Continuous In-Take Coop (CIC) program is back for another exciting year.  This unique and specialized Co-op program is now located at Monsignor Fraser College Isabella Campus (146 Isabella Street - Bloor and Sherbourne).

Key features of the CIC program:

 This program is a great opportunity for students to earn high school credits, gain work skills and work experience at the same time.

ARMY RESERVE

32 Canadian Brigade Group will be offering the ARMY RESERVE COOP Program in Spring 2024. Applications are due Oct 31, 2023, but it is highly recommended that students begin the application process early to ensure they are processed in time.  Attached is the 2024 Timeline, and an information sheet for teachers and students with the program overview. 

Students must submit an online application on the FORCES.CA website. During the application it will ask for the student's "entry plan"; Please ensure they use RES COOP.

Please note: Military co-ops are paid ($101.96 per day),  4 credits, and only run in SEM 2. 

OYAP

youth to post secondary program

Seneca's Youth to Post-Secondary (Y2P) will be starting classes again in September 2021, and we are currently intaking students.

The Y2P program is a free college preparation (academic upgrading) program that directly targets at-risk youth who are between 18 and 30 years.


 What makes the Y2P program unique is that it has a strong wrap-around support system to help these youth.  We focus on academic skills, but we also help to build the students in non-academic areas as well.  Some of the ways that we assist our students include tutoring, advising, career counseling, and professional counseling, among other supports. 

Upon successful completion, the student is able to pursue the workplace, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, college-bridging, or college programs.  If a student is qualified, we accept the student into Y2P regardless of whether or not they have achieved their OSSD.

Ontario Virtual School 

As the online learning partner of the Ontario Ministry of Education, TVO ILC provides students in Ontario and around the world with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma online.  

Options for Completing Credits:
