Practicing SOLER, Active Listening, Empathetic Listening, Probing, and Summarizing Video
Reflection is an important part of one's life. It allows you to find out what worked or didn't work in a task, a job, or just in life. Reflection is important for a school counselor because it allows one to grow and develop. It helps to become better where one is weak and grow stronger where one's strengths are. The first artifact I chose for Reflection is Professional Dispositions Self-Assessment Survey because it allowed me to think about how being an educator/school counselor can be meaningful to our students. It also shows the way I believe I can help one to grow and be successful in their own life. The second artifact is the Practicing SOLER, Active Listening, Empathetic Listening, Probing, and Summarizing Video. This allowed me to see how I interact with others and to see how I show the strategies of active and empathetic listening, probing and SOLER.
This is my final score for my formal observation for the 2023-2024 school year, which would fall in the category of effective/highly effective with a score of 67/72.
I had the opportunity to attend this conference again in Phoenix, AZ. This professional development allows me to network, gain new resources, find new ideas, hear amazing guest speakers and spend time with our district counselors.
A great opportunity to self-reflect and gain new knowledge.
A SCIT demonstrates reflective practices by consistently reflecting on one's job performance, asking for constructive feedback, and conducting surveys from staff, families and students. Stopping to reflect what went well in a classroom lesson and what may need improvement is another way to reflect and find out what may need improvement in delivering the desired topic/content. One needs to stop and think if a better approach would be more beneficial. Being open-minded, responsible and committed will allow for a SCIT to improve and be successful. There is always room for improvement and if one is willing to allow that to happen, growth will continue to happen.
