As a school counselor, we have many opportunities to continue to grow in our profession. The Professional Development Opportunities artifact displays the organizations a school counselor can be part of to maintain and continue that learning. It provides resources that can be utilized and also where one can refer to if questions or concerns arise. Research in Counseling explains the importance of the role of the school counselor ethically and culturally. It shows how being dedicated allows room for improvement with research and data. In addition, below are pictures of my own dedication to my profession by continuing to learn and grow as a school counselor in my district. In August 2023, I was able to attend the Ben Bells Kind Campus Kickoff to learn the procedures of making our school a "Kind Campus." In September 2023, I was given the opportunity to attend a Suicide Prevention Workshop to become certified as a QPR Gateway Instructor. Last, I had the honor of becoming a member of Alpha Chi because of my dedication and hard work during my educational journey at GCU.
Becoming a school counselor has allowed me to see a different kind of dedication. Being part of the school system, you dedicate yourself in different ways. As a school counselor I have grown and learned a variety of things from all stakeholders. I continue to give great effort in becoming the best I can not just for myself but for all the students. I show dedication by advocating for students and for my school counseling program by speaking up and providing data and evidence. I meet with other elementary school counselors who are role models where their dedication is visible, which helps me to be better at my role. I am committed to continue to grow by learning new strategies and techniques, collaborating with all stakeholders, hearing constructive feedback and to professionally develop as a well rounded school counselor.
