Compassion can be shown in a variety of different ways by a school counselor. Building relationships and connecting with students allows a safe and trusting environment for them. Students need to be supported academically just as much as socially and emotionally. The artifacts I chose to display Compassion are Application of Group Counseling Skills in Responsive Services and Academic Counseling. I chose these because our role is an important one and we have the responsibility to help our students succeed academically in their own way and also to direct and guide them down the right path that fits their needs. The pictures below represents compassion through academics.

As a school counselor, building relationships starts from the first moment of interaction with someone. Showing you care and are interested in their life and what they have to say is a key component of building these relationships. It is important to listen, support, educate, advocate and build with our students to give them the opportunity to be given what they need socially, emotionally, and academically.
