Professionalism is a key component in being a school counselor. It shows respect for oneself, displays appropriate behavior and also exhibits self-care. The first artifact I chose for Professional Conduct is Certification and Credential Requirements. This explains what a counselor needs to do to be a counselor in Arizona, what legislations and policies we need to be aware of and follow, specific professional counseling organizations one can become a member of and an overview of the job responsibilities. The second artifact is Counseling Ethics and Responsibilities. This discusses ethical practices and protecting client rights and records.

An SCIT needs to follow and abide by the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors. It is important to know students' rights and follow proper procedures and protocols at the appropriate time. A school counselor is a positive role model by displaying professional behavior on and off of school grounds, showing respect for the community and others and by being someone that students and families can trust and confide in when necessary.
