A Message from the Governors
The Governing Body believe in children receiving the best possible Primary School education. At the heart of its thinking, the Governing Body aims to provide the most suitable resources and learning environment, both inside the building and surrounding grounds, to support the children’s learning. The Governors share the same ethos as the School Management and work in partnership to achieve these aims. We hope this website will provide you with the information you need about the School and that you find it useful.
We believe we have appointed governors who have the skills to contribute to effective governance and the success of the school.
We review our effectiveness regularly, including the extent to which our size and structure is fit for purpose and our members have the necessary skills.
Our governors are encouraged to commit to training and a budget is set aside for this.
Governors hold an important office and we share their identity with the wider community. Within these pages you will find up to date details of our governance arrangements in a readily accessible format.
A code of conduct is maintained and there is an explicit agreement to the code of conduct which means there is a common reference point should any difficulties arise. All our governors have signed the code of conduct.
Mrs Danielle Hayes
Chair of Governors
I am a parent governor at Summerhill Primary with three children attending the school. My eldest son is currently in year 6, my daughter year 3 and my youngest son in year 1. I am passionate about children’s education and wellbeing, so it is both a privilege and a joy to be involved.
I was impressed with Summerhill from my first meeting. Not only the warm welcome from staff, but the calibre of young people I had the pleasure to meet on our initial visit. We got to speak with some of the pupils from the then year 6; confident and extremely polite students who enthused about school life. It struck me an environment where children are happy, nurtured and encouraged to be the best they can be.
I also own and run a logistics company and have done for the past 15 years, exporting containers from the UK to all over the world. Although this does keep me rather busy, it affords me the flexibility to be able to attend school trips and go in and help at times with the younger children build confidence with their reading.
I enjoy cooking and swimming, and when we get the chance, skiing holidays with the family.

"I am Natalie Murphy, a co-opted Governor for Summerhill Primary School. As an Assistant Headteacher at a local secondary school, part of my role involves overseeing transition from primary school to secondary school, and I have therefore built strong relationships with Summerhill through this process. Trained to teach English across Key Stage 2-Key Stage 5, and former Head of English, I have extensive knowledge of the primary and secondary curriculum. As Assistant Headteacher of a local secondary school with responsibility for teaching and learning, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience of pedagogical approaches to enhance teaching and learning of all students. Living and working within the local community has given me a great understanding of our children and their families and I look forward to working with all stakeholders of Summerhill Primary School."

Coopted Governor
I retired 9 years ago and before I finished work as an accountant in the NHS, I became a governor at Summerhill. It's one of the best things that I have ever done, and interacting with the children is an endless joy and privilege. I can often be seen helping out in Forest School where the children get a chance to gain an appreciation of their environment and get very dirty. I can see me being here for many years yet.

LA Governor
"I'm Boby and I am the Local Authority Governor at Summerhill Primary School. I am very impressed with the school’s ethos and approach to learning and very excited to be working with the school. I am keen to ensure the children are able to achieve to the best of their abilities and are happy and confident . My professional background is in the NHS and Healthcare and my current job involves programme managing key mental health transformation programmes for Greater Manchester. Although my focus is on adult mental health, I can bring knowledge and resources related to children's mental health. I also bring a range of other skills such as service improvement, analysis and problem solving and I believe I can bring a fresh perspective to the school. I also have two young children and in my free time I like to exercise and spend time with my family."
