We are a very happy, busy and hard working class who love a challenge!

Our class teacher is Mrs Rannard, our Learning Partners are Mrs Lewis and Mrs Collins. We are also joined this year by MIss Ridgeway who is a trainee teacher.

Our School day starts at 8:45am and we finish at 3:10pm.

Our PE day is Friday and children are to come into school dressed in their outdoor PE kit. Children can wear their trainers, plain black joggers or leggings and black Summerhill sweatshirt/hoodie with their Summerhill P.E. t-shirt underneath. Children can wear their green P.E. shorts when it is hot. Black pumps are to be left in school at all times.

Spellings and maths tasks are given out on a Friday and this will be done on Google classroom.

Reading continues to be an important part of learning and school life. Your help with this is much appreciated. As the children gain increasing confidence in their reading skills, they are encouraged to develop their comprehension skills. We ask parents to support us in this through daily reading at home and by asking the children questions about what they read. Please explore word meanings; children will often read words, do not understand their meaning and will not ask. Questioning and rereading sections is really helpful to cement a full understanding and enjoyment of books. The children are encouraged to change their home reading book as needed and will have regular opportunities to partake in whole class reading activities.

Children are encouraged to bring in a healthy snack for morning break time. Ideally this should be fruit or vegetable sticks. As a healthy school we discourage children bringing crisps / chocolate biscuits on a daily basis. We do not permit sweets or chocolate bars for snack. Please do also be aware of the sugar content in cereal bars.

Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle with water only. Poor hydration affects mental performance and learning ability by reducing the brain’s ability to transmit and receive information. Studies show that once thirst is felt, mental performance including memory, attention and concentration decreases by as much as 10%.

To help us support your child, we ask that you keep the team informed about any worries or concerns that you or your child have. By letting us know of any difficulties, we can ensure that your child comes to school happy and ready to learn.

What we are learning about:

This term our topic for History is 'The Stone Age and for Geography

we are learning about 'Angry Earth'.

Water Bottles

It is important that your child is hydrated throughout the day. Please ensure your child has a labelled reusable water bottle in school. This should be brought home each night to be washed and returned containing fresh water each day. In addition, it is important that your child only brings water in their water bottle.

Please ensure ALL uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Children take part in PE every week. This can be inside and outside. The indoor kit consists of green shorts, white Summerhill t-shirt and black pumps. The outdoor kit is a navy or black tracksuit and trainers. Please ensure that PE kits are clearly labelled and are kept in school at all times. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term, for it to be washed and ready to be returned for the next half term. Please ensure that any earrings are removed for PE.

Make and Bake

Each term we would ask for a contribution of £3 Make and Bake Money please.

We can only administer medication that has been prescribed for your child. This will only be done once you have completed the required forms from the school office. If your child is asthmatic, we need to have a reliever inhaler at school. We are not permitted to give children over the counter medicines eg. Calpol. All medication must be delivered directly to the school office for administration.

Attendance and Punctuality

Please ensure your child attends school and please only keep them off if absolutely necessary. Also, the children must be on the playground ready for the school bell at 8.55am. This enables the children to be settled in class, ready for the school day to start. It is not nice for the children to be late or off unnecessarily as they miss out on what is happening in school.

Website and Permission forms

Our website is updated regularly with news of what the children have been doing and the topics and Creative Learning. Photos are put on regularly. If you have any changes to the permission that you may/may not have given for photographs on the website or in newspapers, please let me know and we will amend our records.

We are very fortunate to have a fantastic reading corner and we are looking to continue to build an environment that will beckon your child into the wonderful world of reading. It is a lifelong hobby which can help build the imagination, vocabulary and education of your child. To foster this love of reading the children will continue to have guided reading sessions each day. Each child works in a small group reading and answering questions and then writing about it.

Homework in Year 3 will be focused on spellings, times tables and reading. As we start each new history topic we would also like the children to research facts and details will be sent out separately of the topic we will be studying. It is important at home to practice the 2,3,4, 5 & 8x tables. The children need to know both the multiplication and division facts and we will have a test each week on a Monday.

Spellings will be sent out on a Friday and we will have a weekly test the following Friday.

As I am sure you are aware, as well as being an enjoyable pastime, reading impacts hugely on children’s writing ability and general learning. To support this please continue to read with your child every evening and ask questions about the text to develop their level of understanding.
